Kimchi 1.0.0 has been released!

Kimchi (김치) is a friendly server management tool written by We made that software in hope it will be useful to you. As always the source code is available so if you want to extend it go ahead.

Can't wait for the next mastodon release, auto post deletion is really cool :cirnocomfy:

Poetry, ~700 chars

In an effort to get people to look
into each other’s eyes more,
and also to appease the mutes,
the government has decided
to allot each person exactly one hundred
and sixty-seven words, per day.

When the phone rings, I put it to my ear
without saying hello. In the restaurant
I point at chicken noodle soup.
I am adjusting well to the new way.

Late at night, I call my long distance lover,
proudly say I only used fifty-nine today.
I saved the rest for you.

When she doesn’t respond,
I know she’s used up all her words,
so I slowly whisper I love you
thirty-two and a third times.
After that, we just sit on the line
and listen to each other breathe.

Even though I am an Android developer and I use Kotlin on a daily basis, I cannot but agree with NewPipe here.

Converting from Java to Kotlin could lead to problems, specially when the !! operator is involved (because the automatic Java -> Kotlin converter puts sometimes the !! in the variables).

Don't do that.

Also, I still think we could keep doing Android apps in Java (specially that we have Java 11 now available for Android development). You don't have to use Kotlin if you don't want to. Don't be fooled.

I got my own :misskey: Instance
Got myself a Matrix Account
Maybe start playing Minecraft online
Start caring about people I never met in real life all over the world

What have you done to me?
:blobcatgooglyholdingitsheadinitshands: I am being sucked into the nice part of the internet. You know this one who isn't big tech companies and people constantly shouting and insulting each other...

how to run the largest social media site in the world

:brain1: pepper site with ads
:brain2: collect user data to make ads more personal
:brain3: accidentally leak that user data to third-parties
:brain4: don't tell users about it
:brain5: intentionally sell that data to third parties
:brain6: don't tell users about it
:brain7: be accomplices to largest misinformation campaigns in history
:brain8: pretend to care about it
:brain9: do nothing about it
:brain10: accidentally delete bgp routes, preventing engineers from badging in to fix the bgp routers

TIL that iphones regularly transmit the Mac addresses of devices attached to the same WiFi network to Apple. In addition to their geographical location of course.

So essentially you can be tracked across all locations where an iPhone is near you (and you haven't disabled your WiFi).

Gitea (nightly edition) now has nodeinfo support. One (very tiny) step towards full federation. Thanks to @techknowlogick, @dachary @fedeproxy (and many others) for making this happen!

Today also (coincidentally) happened to be the day of the submission of the NLnet grant application for work on federation.

These are indeed very exciting times, and we are very proud and thankful of the community surrounding Gitea.
